![]() You’ve got bright pumpkin spiders, a few Frankensteins, and other spooky Halloween-themed ones! This spider garland doesn’t have the run-of-the-mill spider, no. Alternatively, you can stick a craft spider or mini toy spider on it, as well! 7. You can also draw a cute little spider on the paper plate. Once they’ve got the hang of it, you and your toddler can grab markers and draw the webs on the paper plates. You can help them practice the cobweb drawing on regular paper beforehand. ![]() Paper Plate Spider Webĭon’t you think that it takes a rather steady hand to be able to recreate the pattern of cobwebs? Toddlers, I think, can benefit greatly from this exercise. ![]() Once you have finished painting your snap lids and you’re absolutely sure you like how they’ve turned out, go ahead and decorate them. You’ll also need orange acrylic paint, brushes, some green felt, googly eyes, and magnets from here. You’ll need a few snap lids, which I’m sure you have lying around your home. You can introduce them to magnets during this next craft project when you make magnetic pumpkins in honor of Halloween. You’ll also need colored vinyl and transfer tape like this. If you don’t already have one, consider investing in a Cricut machine to help you with your craft projects. Window clings are so very underrated, don’t you think? I still get this wave of child-like excitement when I spot them on window decorations.ĭo you know what else would make me happier? Actually making them! This is the perfect Halloween craft that young ones will particularly enjoy, too. Decorate the water bottles you picked out, toss these embellishments in, and you’re all set. You can switch out the googly eyes with these spider embellishments or even just colored rubber bands. They’re colorful, yes, but these googly eyes are what really add to the sensory effect. These quirky sensory bottles are just the right touch of spooky to contribute to your Halloween craft project. They can get pretty distracted easily, but you know, when you see a tantrum brewing, distraction is exactly what you need. Keeping your toddlers occupied can be a Herculean task. The ones you’ll find here are specifically suited for stems and vine tendrils. The chenille stem you see can be recreated with pipe cleaners. For the pumpkin tops, you can paint the lid a nice bright and glittery green. Make sure you wash your container(s) thoroughly before you let your toddler handle it. I switched over to Tide’s laundry pods last year, and I’ve found the perfect way to repurpose old pod container boxes! The boxes are naturally orange and just curvy enough to use to make your Halloween pumpkins! Alternatively, you can draw your own version of the pumpkin don’t forget to give it nice big eyes! 2. You can download the printable template to help you and your toddler with this project. You can use colored craft paper, cardstock, or even just construction paper for this craft. This paper pumpkin craft is super easy to make, and you probably already have everything you’ll need. You know, if you sit them up next to a big enough one, you’ll notice they’re about the same size, and they’re equally plump and chubby! It can be a wonderful opportunity to give them a fun and learning experience in one go! 1. ![]() ![]() Since the Pad Tool requires a sketch in order to create a solid, a sketch with the holes placed and dimensioned will create a solid that is fully formed. Ignoring the production workflow for a moment, the workflow can be modified so that the sketch defines the piece of wood AND the holes themselves. This process can be easily replicated using the Pad Tool and other FreeCAD Part Design workbench tools. A wood worker would typically create a rectangular piece of wood, then layout the holes, and finally drill the holes. Let's consider the example of a piece of wood with several holes in it. The Pad Tool can also be used in a manner that doesn't exactly match the way that a wood worker works. Wood workers tend to work with solid pieces of wood that are rectangular in nature, and the Pad Tool can be used in this way in line with the way that a wood worker would maniupulate the piece of wood. Second length: This parameter is ONLY available when the Two dimensions pad type has been selected. The height of the pad in each direction is half the value of the dimension option Symmetric to plane: The resulting pad is created on both sides of the plane containing the sketch. The Symmetric to plane option disables the Reversed options because it is not applicable. The amount of padding on either side of the plane can be specified separately allowing non-symmetric solids to be created. Two dimensions: This option causes the Pad Tool to create a pad on both sides of the sketch. The pad will pass through any solids that it encounters before it reaches the selected face To face: This option causes the Pad Tool to create a solid from the sketch to the face that you select. The pad will pass through any solids that it encounters before the last face To last: This option causes the Pad Tool to create a solid from the sketch to the last face that it encounters. This type can be used to create a pad between two solids To first: This option causes the Pad Tool to create a solid from the sketch to the first face that it encounters.Type: This option specifies the type of pad that will be created. It can also be used to add solid features to an existing solid once the sketch is placed on a face. From there it’s over to Prusa-Slicer (see this post) and then printing. The Pad Tool is used to take a sketch and convert it into a solid. Then select the union that get displayed in the model field in the left hand column and export it as an STL mesh file. When all of the bits you want (in this case all two of them) are highlighted select menu Part->boolean->union. Select the objects from the left hand column. You then need to form a union of the text and the wedge. We end up with a 3D diagram like this: Notice that in this I haven’t got the angle quite right so one end is slightly more embedded than the other. The above example has a crazily large text height so change that in the dialog when it is selected. That’s fine but there must be no gap between the wedge and the text. Like this: Notice the ext is actually slightly embedded in the wedge. Get your angled text so that is at least touching all the way along. Until that is you want unite the two objects. If it isn’t then (quite reasonably) FreeCad will not allow you to unite the text and wedge into one object. When you are moving the text about make absolutely sure it is touching or embedded in the wedge. Warning: Make sure thay are fully touching This would prevent you getting a valid STL file later. WARNING! notice (I’ve exaggerated it) the gap between wedge and text. We could if we want simply add our text here. Extrude it for 5mm so now we have a slab. Get the sketch fully constrained (see this post), click OK then you and your sketch are back in Part Design.Ĭlick on extrude. Then click on start body and finally click on start sketch. Open FreeCad and change the Start screen to the Part Design Screen by selecting from the dialog box in the middle of the top bar. If you get stuck try this post series that describes these skimmed topics in more detail. Just to make it a little more interesting this is done on a sloping face. In this previous post I detailed how to cut text into a flat object. This is just a simple little Freecad project to design and build a keyfob with angled text like the one below. The final freshly printed keyfob with raised text at an angle ![]() ![]() ![]() In 2006, peer exchange functionality was added allowing clients to add peers based on the data found on connected nodes.īitTorrent v2 is intended to work seamlessly with previous versions of the BitTorrent protocol. In 2005, first Vuze and then the BitTorrent client introduced distributed tracking using distributed hash tables which allowed clients to exchange data on swarms directly without the need for a torrent file. These files contain metadata about the files to be shared and the trackers which keep track of the other seeds and peers. Once a peer completed a download of the complete file, it could in turn function as a seed. Those who wish to download the file would download the torrent, which their client would use to connect to a tracker which had a list of the IP addresses of other seeds and peers in the swarm. The first uploader acted as a seed, and downloaders would initially connect as peers. Up until 2005, the only way to share files was by creating a small text file called a " torrent", that they would upload to a torrent index site. The first release of the BitTorrent client had no search engine and no peer exchange. While traveling to court this financial backing, Judah contracted yellow fever in Panama and died, becoming an oft-forgotten driving force of the first transcontinental railroad. Unfortunately, however, Judah butted heads with these men and sought the help of Eastern investors, namely Cornelius Vanderbilt, instead. He preached the railroad gospel to any who would listen, convincing a group of Sacramento businessmen and shopkeepers to invest in his operation, which led to the incorporation of the Central Pacific Railroad with Leland Stanford, Collis Huntington, Mark Hopkins and eventually Charles Crocker as major backers. The prospect of a railroad from coast to coast excited one young engineer in California, Theodore Judah, who took on the task of surveying a likely route through the Sierra Nevadas. Not surprisingly, that was the reason a southern route through more favorable terrain and weather was not built first. Surprisingly, the Civil War sped up the process of building the railroad, Davis noted, because predominantly northern legislatures could approve a route and pass land grant acts to aid the railroads without facing objections from their southern counterparts. “The process of planning a transcontinental railroad, selecting a route and actually building it took a long time, especially as politicians could not agree on a route.” government wanted to bridge the gap between the rising populations of the West with the more established East,” Davis explained. This historic photo shows track work taking place the day before the big ceremony, Promontory Summit, Utah, | Photo courtesy of Utah State Historical Society, St. ![]() One of the main motivations for building a transcontinental railroad was the California Gold Rush, Southern Utah University history professor Laura June Davis said. With that realization, talk of a rail line that would span the width of the continent began to gain traction. in the 1830s, then started to grow exponentially when the realization of their potential power soaked in. Railroads began to emerge in the Eastern half of the U.S. It is easily at the top of the list of events with major national significance and repercussions that happened in Utah.Īnd just as modern-day children (and even adults sometimes) say or think that oft-heard impatient refrain, the top brass down to the graders and track layers of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific probably thought the same thing as they built the grand iron rail that linked the nation from sea to sea a century and a half ago: Instead, it’s an extremely significant spot where hordes of history buffs have descended to witness reenactments or other festivities marking the beginning of the golden age of transportation in the United States.
